The issue you are experiencing with the black flashes across your screen is due to a newer version of AMD graphics drivers with poor support for the older DirectX 9 API. Unfortunately, AMD has chosen not to attempt to fix their implementation of Direct3D 9.

There are now two methods to rectify this issue. The first uses a Vulkan API wrapper to interpret calls to the Direct3D API. This method is the much more secure method, and may also increase performance on heavily CPU bound systems.

If this fails to fix the issue, then consider using the second method; however, please note that the second method disable Windows Update and rolls back your graphics card driver, which may open your computer to security vulnerabilities, so use method 2 at your own risk.

Method 1 - Vulkan API wrapper[]

Note: you will need a third-party file archiver such as 7-Zip (https://www.7-zip.org/) or WinRAR (https://www.rarlab.com/) to open the tar.gz file.

CAUTION: Ensure you get the 32-bit version. The 64-bit version will not work with Utherverse/RLC.

Download DXVK[]

First, download the latest release of DXVK found here:

https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases (file is dxvk-x.x.x.tar.gz)

Extract DLL file to game folder[]

In your file archiver, find the d3d9.dll file in the following location:

dxvk-x.x.x/x32/d3d9.dll

Copy this file to your game's base folder, which by default is:

for 64-bit Windows:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Utherverse Digital Inc\Red Light Center\

for 32-bit Windows:

C:\Program Files\Utherverse Digital Inc\Red Light Center\

Run game[]

The game should now run without any graphical glitches.

Method 2 - Rollback to older graphics driver[]

Disable Windows 10 updates[]

The first step you need to take is disable windows 10 updates. This is due to windows otherwise automatically updating your AMD driver to the lastest.

You can do this using the Windows Update service. Via Control Panel > Administrative Tools, you can access Services.

In the Services window, scroll down to Windows Update and turn off the process.

To turn it off, right-click on the process, click on Properties and select Disabled. That will take care of Windows Updates not being installed on your machine.

Uninstall Current Driver[]

If you have installed the older driver over the newer driver, you might run into compatibility issues. Therefore, we advise to first uninstall your newer driver. Instructions on how to uninstall AMD drivers can be found on their website:

http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/GPU57RemoveOldGraphicsDrivers.aspx

Manual Uninstall[]

If that does not work please uninstall the drivers manually. You can read how to do that here:

https://www.pcworld.com/article/246041/how_to_uninstall_drivers_in_windows.html (scroll down to the Uninstall a Driver section)

Install 14.4 Driver that still works with Utherverse[]

You would have to uninstall the latest graphics driver. And update to a older driver. The older driver can be found here:
